By Air:

The easiest airports to get to the apartment are Murcia Airport and Alicante Airport. Murcia is 20 minutes and Alicante 45 minutes. I normally fly to Alicante as there are more flights going there and back and can also be a lot cheaper.

For the Villa Almeria Airport is the closest (1 hr 15 minutes), followed very closely by Granada and then Murcia (over 2 hrs), Malaga and Alicante. The furthest airport is roughly 2hrs 45 minutes from the Villa.

By Boat with car:

The best Company to use is Britanny Ferries and they sail from Portsmouth and Plymouth to Santander. Portsmouth is about 24 hours and Plymouth is a lot less. I have done the Portsmouth Journey and it is great. Depending on how fast you drive and how many stops you have it is about 9 or 10 hours driving to the Villa. I find the journey quite easy. There is a lot of entertainment on these boats and if you have kids they will love it. It is like a big adventure for them. If you are going to be in Spain for quite a while this is a great option, no rental car and your own car may well be better than the rental car you would hire. You can take as much luggage as you want, or better still don't take too much and load up on the local produce coming back. For me, I like the boat option.

By Car through France:

I have done this several times but to be honest, with the cost of tolls in France going to over €130 and the extra fuel cost it seems to be more trouble than sleeping on a boat. One tip would be to drive to the left of Paris (missing Paris) and head towards Reims and Lyon. This will save you 2 or 3 hours. The Roads near Paris are similar to the M25 on a bad day. People from all over Europe are driving on this route in the summer. The quickest I have done this with two drivers was 19 hours to the apartment from when I landed in Calais.

Airlines: Click the pictures to take you through to their web sites.

Easyjet

Easyjet are one of the two low cost carriers that fly to Spain regularly and to many different airports. They fly to Almeria for the Villa more often than Ryanair. Easyjet do not fly to Granada.

Ryanair are very reliable and probably do not need any introduction, cheap and cheerful. They fly to Granada as well for the Villa.

With Monarch you can book a seat with extra legroom. Slightly more expensive than other airlines most of the time and they fly to Alicante, so less choice of destinations.

Car Hire

Gold Car - I have used these many times in the past. They are the most popular and the best value. All car companies have extra charges when you get there and these are no different. The last time I used them they had an additional daily charge for Diesel cars but a little like Ryanair they are still the best value even with all their trickery.

Hertz

Not a bad Company but like the others they think they are selling double glazing. Be prepared for a few tricks when you turn up. I am very tall and in Feb. 2010, I ordered a largish vehicle but when I arrived at their desk they offered me a Corsa and said it was in the same category as the larger vehicle I ordered, so they made me pay more for a larger vehicle.

Europcar

Quality Cars and service at quality prices. You will collect your car keys quickly here as you would with Hertz, they do not have that many customers, most are at Gold Car.
